Steve Anderson received his BA in Broadcasting from San Francisco State University. Following graduation he opened an independent motorcycle repair business in San Francisco’s Mission District, which he operated for several years. He also took time to study the Japanese martial art Aikido, or “Way of Harmony,” living in the Dojo as an apprentice student called “uchi dechi” for a year and training two and one-half hours per day. He also played in various local bands during this time.

Steve was accepted by U.C. Hastings College of Law, and graduated in 1998 with academic honors (cum laude), having achieved the highest scores in Evidence, Criminal Procedure, Bankruptcy and Creditors Remedies, and Personal Injury Litigation. Following law school Steve was offered an opportunity to teach law overseas at a Russian law school called Saratov State Academy of Law (SGAP), which he did for a semester. Upon his return from Russia Steve went to work as the first in-house lawyer for a San Francisco startup called innoVentry Corporation.

From 1999 to 2003 Steve had the privilege of serving as law clerk to United States District Judge (now Senior United States District Judge) Anthony W. Ishii of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of California (Fresno Division). There, he performed extensive legal research and wrote orders and opinions of the court on a daily basis. Following his clerkship, Steve took a position as corporate counsel for American Suzuki Motor Corporation (now Suzuki Motor of America) in Orange County, CA, and thereafter as a contract attorney (and eventually senior counsel) with Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD).

Following his employment with AMD, Steve worked for a variety of technology companies located in the Silicon Valley and abroad, ranging in size from early-stage startups to publicly traded Fortune 500 companies. Notable among these are Intuit Inc., AVAST Software, an Andreessen Horowitz-backed startup called Instart Logic, and FLEX by Fenwick, the alternative legal staffing arm of Fenwick & West LLP.

Although trained in litigation by virtue of his clerkship experience, Steve most enjoys the deal-making and strategic aspects of transactional law — particularly projects involving new technologies or the joint development of products or markets. He also appreciates the challenges associated with high-dollar transactions; Steve has negotiated deals with a combined value to clients well into the hundreds of millions of dollars. Steve also enjoys working with nonprofit and philanthropic causes, having served as board member and officer of two San Francisco nonprofits: Central City Hospitality House and the Zero Net Energy Working Group (ZNEWG).

Steve has over 17 years of experience as an attorney.
